The traditional norm of post-secondary level education is changing and the enrollment rate for what has been notoriously deemed as “vocational school” is on the rise.
Why the change? As a former President of the National Career Development Association, put it “American career technical education is being redefined because the needs of the evolving US and world economies are changing. Educators at all levels are recognizing that the world’s employers increasingly need skill sets that the conventional four-year college degree doesn’t give.”
Quoted another person, “High schools, community colleges, universities, parents, and employers are all beginning to realize that to be competitive, our educational system needs more than academic theory.”
This is good news for someone interested in trades such as CAD design and drafting, as more jobs specifically looking for vocational skill levels are increasing. Although knowledge of traditional education-math, history, science-are important, many CAD-staffing agencies are finding people with technical skills are becoming more and more valuable to those looking to hire.
The increase in vocational program interest spans in all ages and experience levels, from high school students to four-year college graduates, to adults returning to school to upgrade their skills and remain worthy of employment. High schools are increasingly offering more technical curriculums; a great way for students to experience possible career options in high school while earning college credit.
